Position Title: Substitute

Employment Status: Part-time On-Call

Immediate Supervisor: Education Coordinator 

Titles of Position Supervised: None

Major Objectives: Provide backup teaching services for Head Start centers throughout the County for children ranging in age from 6 weeks to 5 years.  Work positively as a team with the other Teacher in the classroom to provide and supervise safe activities which promote the emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of the children, while following all CSO Policies and Procedures, State Licensing Requirements, and Federal Head Start Guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow the classroom schedule and lesson plans
  • Interact positively with staff, children, and families
  • Execute the program of developmentally appropriate early childhood education experiences including art, music, movement, math, science, and language, provided in the curriculum
  • Provide and maintain a neat, safe, clean, and organized classroom and take responsibility for the care of all educational equipment and materials
  • Supervise all activities to ensure safety of each child at all times, complete incident or illness reports, and communicate information of any concerns to your supervisor immediately
  • Greet and introduce yourself to each child and parent warmly and in a friendly manner each morning upon their arrival in the classroom
  • Assure each child is within line of sight of one teacher at all times
  • Maintain a neat and clean appearance, including washing hands after using the toilet, toileting or diapering a child, wiping noses, handling pets, and before preparing and/or serving food
  • Consider the individual child in relationship to his/her cultural and social-economic background, helping each to understand his or her value in the group
  • Help each child to function cooperatively in a group
  • Does not discuss a child’s negative behavior with parents but refers all concerns to the Supervisor

 

General Duties:

  • Keep Management informed by:
    • Attending Staff Meetings as requested
    • Sharing any reports of Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Protect program integrity and client privacy by keeping all program information gained through employment at CSO absolutely confidential during and after this employment
  • Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning by participating in Staff Development training as requested
  • Contribute to team effort by:
    • Understanding and following the CSO Head Start Policies and Procedures Manual, State Licensing Requirements, and Federal Head Start Guidelines
  • All other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Cleared Criminal Record check and Arkansas Child Maltreatment check
  • Cleared FBI Record check, including fingerprints
  • Ability to pass a TB screening
  • Ability to travel to different centers in the County to complete job requirements
  • Ability to work a varied schedule between the hours of 7:30 and 5:30
  • Ability to lift up to a 40-pound child or get down on the floor if needed
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Respond appropriately (mentally and physically) to any emergency or crisis situation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
