Position Title: Nutrition Specialist

Employment Status: Full-time

Immediate Supervisor: Nutrition Director

Titles of Position Supervised: None

Major Objectives

Under the Nutrition Director, assist in the activities of a school cafeteria such as cooking and serving a variety of foods in large quantities and maintaining the kitchen in a clean and sanitary condition.

Responsibilities

  • Learn and demonstrate the proper method of preparing and cooking wholesome and attractive meals according to recipes provided in large quantities
  • Learn and demonstrate the use of appliances and equipment including the operation of all equipment according to manufacturer’s directions with emphasis given to safety guidelines and reporting any malfunction, damage, or loss of equipment
  • Learn and demonstrate the proper method of cleaning and storing cafeteria utensils and equipment
  • Learn and demonstrate proper opening and closing procedures of the kitchen each day including checking all appliances and pieces of equipment to ensure they are clean, empty, and turned off before leaving for the day
  • Learn and demonstrate safety and sanitation principles applicable to food service and kitchen maintenance such as maintaining a clean and sanitary work station and following standard schedules and procedures for cleaning equipment, utensils, the kitchen, and cafeteria
  • Assist in the service of food including the transportation of food and supplies where necessary including gathering and packing hot and cold food for delivery on or offsite
  • Assist with the inventory and storage of food and other necessary supplies
  • Assist in completing daily menu production records and student meal participation
  • Assist in organization of food for special events
  • Dress as necessary to meet State and Federal regulations including the use of hair nets, gloves, snug sleeves, etc.
  • Anticipate problems, where possible, recommend appropriate actions to correct the problems, and use problem solving procedures to resolve any issues
  • Organize and schedule tasks so that students are served nutritious, safe, and aesthetically pleasing meals in a timely manner
  • Follow school, State, and Federal policies and procedures to assure funding is maintained and problems are avoided
  • Promote healthful eating for students
  • Follow established portion control measures to control food costs and assure compliance with

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) requirements

  • Follow procedures to maintain effective insect and rodent control
  • Operate all equipment according to manufacturer’s directions and safety guidelines and notify management and maintenance of any malfunction, damage, or loss of equipment

General Duties

  • Keep Management informed by:
    • Attending Staff Meetings
    • Completing Ongoing Monitoring Checklists
    • Completing Monthly Reports
    • Sharing any reports of Child Abuse and Neglect
  • Protect program integrity and client privacy by keeping all program information gained through employment at CSO absolutely confidential during and after this employment
  • Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning by participating in Staff Development training
  • Contribute to team effort by:
    • Assisting in meetings and events for staff, students, and parents
    • Assisting with parent involvement and obtaining “In-Kind” matching funds
    • Understanding and following the CSO Head Start Policies and Procedures Manual
  • All other duties as assigned

 

Qualification and Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • ServSafe Certification (or willing to obtain) 
  • Cleared Criminal Record check and Arkansas Child Maltreatment check
  • Cleared FBI Record check, including fingerprints
  • Ability to pass a TB screening
  • Ability to work a varied schedule between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds or get down on the floor if needed
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively within a team environment
  • Able to manage and prioritize your own workload
  • Respond appropriately (mentally and physically) to any emergency or crisis situation
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Computer and Organization skills
